As one becomes familiar with audio compression people usually come to the opinion that Joint Stereo is BAD. Being the fact that is not really a true stereo image as the dual channel of true stereo is compressed into one single "mono like" file and uses math to separate out the left and right signals. – Work in mono but encode in Joint Stereo – Joint Stereo means that it encodes one track + the differences relative to that track from the second track. Given that you use mono as the input, there will be no differences, thus the filesize will be identical to the mono case, but it will work better with some exotic (read: cheap) players.

Dual Mono vs. True Stereo Audio – Help Center

Dual Mono vs. True Stereo Audio While a video or audio file may have two audio tracks (i.e., a left and right channel), this does not guarantee that the file has true stereo. The left and right channels only refer to the file's audio configuration, not the file's audio quality. Dual Mono v Stereo Compression I have read other threads, specifically about the drawmer 1968-69 on mix buss. Seems some are using these units in dual mono mode and getting good results...

Mono vs Stereo - Difference and Comparison | Diffen

Stereo (or Stereophonic sound) is the reproduction of sound using two or more independent audio channels in a way that creates the impression of sound heard from various directions, as in natural hearing.Mono (Monaural or monophonic sound reproduction) has audio in a single channel, often centered in the “sound field”. i.e. and stereo (Stereophonic) are classification of sound. Here, the Stereo setting indicates this is a stereo clip. To convert a stereo clip to dual-channel mono, select the clip in the Project panel or the Source Monitor, but not in the Timeline, and choose Clip > Modify > Audio Channels. NOTE: You can also right-click the clip and choose Modify > Audio Channels.

MONO is the default mode for mono input files. If "-m m" is specified for a stereo input file, the two channels will be averaged into a mono signal. STEREO JOINT STEREO is the default mode for stereo files with fixed bitrates of 128 kbps or less. At higher fixed bitrates, the default is stereo. Curious - after I followed those steps, I then 'shared to file'. I opened it in iTunes, clicked 'get info' the selected the 'file' tab and I saw that it was still a Joint Stereo file. My issue is that I am recording an audio book and the distributor strongly prefers a mono mp3 file. Maybe I am misunderstanding what a joint stereo file is.

@blackspot: dual mono doesn't mean 2xsame channel. It means separate encoding for L&R channel- that is in fact real stereo sound- while joint stereo is sort of improvisation of stereo sound. dual mono definitely sounds better than joint stereo or 'stereo' in nero, but only if you use higher bit rate-say 192 and higher. I'm converting Real Media Player RM files to MP3 using Jodix free converter but I can't decide which is the best quality: dual channel, stereo or joint stereo. I assume mono is the worst so I'm not including that option. I'm converting now to dual channel but just want to know which one is the best!!

Difference between Dual Stereo and Joint Stereo ...

Joint Stereo: Joint Stereo shares certain bits between high frequency left and right channels. This improves compression efficiency at a slight loss of stereo separation. Lower frequencies are treated as normal stereo. Use Joint Stereo to obtain the best overall quality at mid-to-lower bit rates. < 224 Kbit. Very few MP3 encoders make ideal decisions about what mode to use from frame to frame in joint stereo files, so there has long been a misconception that joint stereo means too many (perhaps 100%) mid-side frames, which is rarely desirable in stereo music and can result in haphazard channel separation and/or suboptimal quality as measured by other criteria. This only remains theory because I cannot think of a manufacturer who builds the exact same amp as stereo, dual-mono in a single chassis, and monoblocks. Anytime a manufacturer goes to dual-mono, there will be more power compared to a single chassis. Hence, it is difficult to dissect the contribution of extra power from the benefit of channel ...

Stereo Vs. Joint Stereo? | Serato.com

Joint Stereo will almost always make your mp3s sound better, the only time it won't make them sound better is if the left and right channels are completely unalike (basically two mono tracks stuck together) in that situation it will sound the same. Are monoblocks better than stereo amplifiers from the same designers? They're certainly more expensive, often twice the price of a stereo. So, what gives wit...

For me, using foobar and having Channel Mixer in my DSP to convert anything mono to stereo before it gets passed through, I encode in true mono. I just recently ripped my Beatles mono set, and I went through and tossed out the right channel on every WAV file. My foobar theme will detect that is has 1 channel and list it as MONO so I prefer this method for me. There is intensity joint stereo and m/s joint stereo. Intensity joint stereo discards some panning information to reduce file size. M/s joint stereo is like m/s micing in reverse, the l/r information is converted to a sum (mid) channel and a difference (side) channel. M/s is surround compatible (though data reduction of it can lead to artifacts ...

Dual Stereo bringt dir mal garnichts. I've always wondered what the difference between the two is, and sometimes (games, movie players, etc), you are given a choice of mono or stereo sound. I toggle both but don't hear any difference. ...

As the topic says, what is the difference? 'Cause I'm creating a lot of SVCDs and I wonder if I should use Dual Channel or Joint Stereo istead of normal Stereo for DVDs, that don't have DD 5.1 (If they got DD 5.1 I mostly use MPEG MC). In terms of quality, no, they are the same (given the same encoding bitrate). But file size will be smaller with joint encoding due to the way individual blocks are processed. Essentially, the encoder analyses the left and right channel informatio... What usually follows is a lengthy discussion about the applicability of mono sound systems versus stereo systems, the difference between two channel sound systems and stereo sound systems, the benefits and limitations of each, the architectural constraints and program requirements that will affect the decision, and the cost implications of each.

Joint Stereo reduces the file size a little by encoding some parts of the spectrum in mono, mostly the low end components which are, to our perception, non-directional. There's really no downside to this, unless you have a track that depends on some flanging effects, in which case you might hear a difference. I believe that Fraunhofer codecs ...

And, LAME's Joint Stereo encoding is smart enough to decide frame-by-frame when mid/side is advantageous and when it's not. So, that French-English track would probably turn-out just as good with Joint Stereo as with regular Stereo. I believe AAC/M4A is always Joint Stereo (unless it's a mono track). Shure But mono's appeal isn't limited to the Bluetooth crowd; some audiophiles go out of their way to collect old mono LPs, which they prefer over stereo LPs of the same album. iPhone 11 Pro. Depends on the filesize you want and the quality associated with it. In a nutshell, Stereo means that each channel is encoded independently and requires a higher bitrate to maintain good quality, whereas Joint Stereo uses a clever mathematical algorithm to sum the difference of both channels along with the mono content and stores it as a single data stream. Joint stereo is a property of an audio data stream and means that the stream supports more than one method of stereo coding, such as SS ("simple" or "L/R" stereo or DualMono), MS ("mid-side" stereo), or IS ("intensity" stereo). A joint stereo stream may still only employ a single coding method, but for the sake of efficiency or quality may switch between methods on a frame or even sub-frame basis.

Q: What is the difference between dual mono and stereo? A: As with many things in life, it’s all about relationships. “Dual mono” indicates two completely separate, independent, unrelated channels. For example, in a dual mono preamp, you might run a vocal through one channel with its own control settings and a bass guitar through the other channel with a completely different set of settings. Die Qualität ist gegenüber Joint-Stereo (bei normalen Stereodateien gleicher Bitrate bzw. gleichem Speicherplatzbedarf) folglich schlechter. Dual-Mono/Dual-Channel. The listener wrote, “However, you did misspeak at one point where you mentioned that stereo files are twice as big as mono files. …A joint stereo file might be just 30% larger than its mono counterpart, if there’s minimal stereo content…” I did some testing on Joint Stereo vs Mono file sizes and I’ve included my findings below ...

Anyone know the difference between joint and stereo channels? I have a piece of software called Switch File Converter which, under Channel Encoding Mode, offers the choice of (i) Stereo, (ii) Joint, (iii) Force and (iv) Mono options. I'm looking for a program that will BATCH Convert several thousand MP3 mono files to MP3 stereo files. They were originally recorded at 22 KHz @ 24 Kbps in mono and need to be converted to stereo so they are useable in Audio DVD Creator. An in-phase, amplitude-matched dual mono track will be displayed as a very thin vertical line. Polarity-reversed dual mono tracks will be displayed as a very thin horizontal line.

Is there any difference between stereo & "joint stereo" on ...

Joint Stereo is usually what's called "mid/side stereo". In normal stereo, the L and R channels are encoded separately. However, in joint stereo, the L and R channels are used to form an L+R and L-R channel to be encoded. The reasoning behind this is that if most of the audio information is in the centre of the stereo image, the L-R channel will be bare and thus very easy to encode. However, the difference between stereo and dual mono audio is determined by the actual audio content within the 2 channels and not simply by the number of channels. A true stereo mix will have subtle or in some cases quite noticeable difference between the 2 channels. In a dual mono mix, the audio in both channels will always be identical. When you purchase music from the iTunes Store or upgrade tracks with iTunes Match, you receive an iTunes Plus file, which plays at 256 Kbps in stereo (128 Kbps in mono). However, iTunes also gives you the option of using a different encoder to compress music you import from other sources, such as a CD.
